Bankton Doocot

Bankton Doocot is a small ochre-rendered building lying immediately to the west of Bankton House in East Lothian. It dates from the 18th century and was built into the corner of a garden wall, which links the house and a mirrored garden house to the east. For many years the doocot was derelict but is now C-listed, having been refurbished with Bankton House in the 1990s but subsequently fell into disuse once again. In 2017 it was refurbished by the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust and re-opened to the public with a permanent exhibition The Colonel Gardiner Story, discussing the life of Colonel James Gardiner (1687 - 1745), the owner of Bankton House who died on the Prestonpans Battlefield.
