Seagreen Wind Farm

An enormous offshore wind array centred 25 miles (40 km) east of Lunan Bay in Angus, Seagreen is Scotland's largest and the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm. A collaboration between TotalEnergies and SSE Renewables, it comprises 114 Vestas V164 turbines installed on three legged steel jackets, each mounted on suction-bucket caissons sitting on the sea-bed. The total cost of the project was £3 billion. Each turbine produces a record-breaking output of 10.0 megawatts (MW) of power, giving an installed capacity of 1140 MW. The first electricity was produced in Augst 2022 and the farm will be fully commissioned in April 2023. It is exported via three subsea cables, totalling around 118 miles (190 km) in length, which make landfall at Carnoustie and connect to an onshore substation at Tealing. An associated operations and maintenance base has been built at Montrose Harbour.

A community benefit fund has been established to benefit communities located in Dundee and Angus which have been impacted by the construction of the wind farm.
