Habbie's Howe

A steep-sided, wooded valley on the course of the River North Esk, Habbie's Howe lies on the border between Midlothian and the Scottish Borders, on the eastern margin of the Pentland Hills, a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Carlops. Here Allan Ramsay (1686 - 1758) set his drama the Gentle Shepherd.
