Larkhall Viaduct

(Morgan Glen Viaduct, Millheugh Viaduct)

The Larkhall (Millheugh or Morgan Glen) Viaduct is the most notable landmark of the town of Larkhall in South Lanarkshire. Completed in 1904, this railway viaduct, with the nearby and now demolished Stonehouse Viaduct, linked the towns of Larkhall and Stonehouse by a branch line of the Caledonian Railway that was eventually closed in 1964. Standing 53.3m (175 feet) in height and having six spans which extend to a total length of 237m (777 feet), this is the highest railway bridge in Scotland. It is now B-listed although lies in a state of neglect and disrepair.
