Wardhouse

An estate and former Palladian mansion lying 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire. The mansion was built in the mid-18th C. and was the birth place of naval commander James Alexander Gordon (1782 - 1869). This lairds of this estate became known as the 'Spanish Gordons', because they refused to renounce their Roman Catholic faith and moved to Spain. King Alfonso 13th of Spain and his Queen, Victoria Eugenia, spent their honeymoon here in 1906. The mansion fell into ruin in the 1950s.
