Dhu or Dubh Loch (Gael. 'black lake'), a wild mountain lake in the SW of Glenmuick parish, Aberdeenshire, 1¾ mile W of the head of Loch Muick, to which it sends off the Allt an Dubh-loch. Lying 2091 feet above sea-level, it has an utmost length and breadth of 51/3 and 11/3 furlongs, and is overhung to the S by Cairn Bannoch (3314 feet) and Broad Cairn (3268), which culminate just on the Forfarshire border. Here, on 16 Sept. 1852, the Queen received confirmation of the death of the Duke of Wellington.Ord. Sur., sh. 65,1870.
