Strath is a coastal island parish, which lies in Highland Council Area, some 10 miles (16 km) west of Kyle of Lochalsh and 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Portree in Highland and includes 2 other small offshore islands.
It is located in the old county of Invernessshire, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 262.1 sq. km (101.2 sq. miles). Strath has Bracadale, Portree and Sleat as its neighbouring parishes. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
