Penicuik is a parish, which lies in Midlothian Council Area, some 7 miles (12 km) southwest of Bonnyrigg in Midlothian and 10 miles (16 km) south of Edinburgh in the City of Edinburgh.
It is located in the old county of Midlothian, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 79.3 sq. km (30.6 sq. miles) and includes the settlement of Penicuik. Penicuik has 9 neighbouring parishes; namely Carrington, Currie, Eddleston, Edinburgh, Glencorse, Lasswade, Newlands, Temple and West Linton. The boundaries of this parish were modified as a consequence of the Local Government (Scotland), 1894.
