Soldier. Born at Pitfichie Castle (Aberdeenshire), Hurry joined the army and served in Germany before returning home in 1641 becoming Lieutenant-Colonel in a Scottish regiment. He remained with the Royalist Army until 1643, before defecting to Cromwell's army, fighting with them at Marston Moor. He supported the Covenanters in Scotland, who were allied to Cromwell, and lost to James Graham, Marquis of Montrose (1612-50) at the Battle of Auldearn (1645).
Not long afterwards, Hurry returned to the Royalist side, serving as Montrose's Major-General. This proved an unfortunate decision as Hurry was wounded and captured at the Battle of Carbisdale (1650). He was executed in Edinburgh on the 29th May of the same year, just a week after Montrose himself.
