John Goldie

1717 - 1809

Author and philosopher. Goldie lived in Kilmarnock and came to prominence in his later years, publishing Essays on Various Subjects, Moral and Divine in 1780. This ran to a second edition in 1785, and was known locally as Goldie's Bible. He is perhaps best remembered in the poem Epistle to John Goldie in Kilmarnock by Robert Burns (1759-96).
