Douglas (Dougie) Payne


1972 -

Singer and musician. Born in Glasgow, Payne was educated at the School of Art in the city. He learned the guitar and joined the rock band Travis, originally known as Glass Onion, with Fran Healy (b.1973), Andy Dunlop (b.1972) and Neil Primrose (b.1972), becoming their bass player and backing vocalist. Critically acclaimed, the band have headlined many of the major rock festivals in the UK and been on several sell-out tours of the USA. Their albums include Good Feeling (1997), The Man Who (1999), The Invisible Band (2001) and 12 Memories (2003), all of which entered the Top 10 in the UK. Their work has been honoured with three Brit Awards. Payne has also written songs such as Know Nothing, The Score and Good For Nothing which have featured on the B sides of their singles.

He is married to actress Kelly MacDonald (b.1976).
