Hollywood makeup artist and stylist. Brought up in Garnethill (Glasgow), McCann attended Glasgow School of Art. His first Holywood success was as the hair stylist and makeup artist on the film Lorna Doone (1990). He worked with Robert Carlyle (b.1961) on the television series Hamish Macbeth (1995-7) and Trainspotting (1996), which also starred Kelly Macdonald (b.1976) and Ewan MacGregor (b.1971), together with Mission Impossible II (2000), with Tom Cruise and Dougray Scott (b.1965). However McCann is perhaps best known as the personal makeup artist and close friend of actress Nicole Kidman. He worked with her on films including Eyes Wide Shut (1999), The Others (2001), The Human Stain (2003), which was nominated for a Best Contemporary Make-up Award by the Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild, Dogville (2003), The Human Stain (2003), Cold Mountain (2003), The Stepford Wives (2004) and Bewitched (2005).
Although retaining a house in the West End of Glasgow, McCann lived with his partner in New York, where he died. His funeral, which took place at Clydebank Crematorium, was attended by several Hollywood stars.
