James Livingston


(4th Earl of Callendar, 5th Earl of Linlithgow)

Jacobite. Livingston succeeded his father as the 4th Earl of Callendar in 1692 and his uncle as the 5th Earl of Linlithgow three years later. He fought with the Jacobites the Battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715 and fled to the Continent shortly thereafter. He was attained in 1716 and his home, Callendar House in Falkirk, was forfeit in 1720.

He died in Rome. His daughter Lady Anne Livingston married William Boyd, 4th Earl of Kilmarnock (1705-46), and gave shelter to Bonnie Prince Charlie during the '45.
