Henry (Harry) Snell Gamley (H.S. Gamley) 1865 - 1928 Sculptor. Born in Logie Pert (Angus), Gamley was educated at James Gillespie's High School in Edinburgh. He trained in London and then returned to Edinburgh to continue his training under D.W. Stevenson (1849 - 1919).Gamley is known for his funerary plaques and for war memorials in Cupar, Montrose and St Giles Kirk and Morningside Free Church in Edinburgh, together with the Heart of Midlothian War Memorial at Haymarket. He also produced bust of Major General Sir Hector MacDonald (1908), a bust of Andrew Usher for the Usher Hall (1914) and a statue of King Edward VII for his memorial at Holyrood Palace (1922).He died in France but lies buried in Dean Cemetery in Edinburgh, where is grave is marked by an unusual rock-like memorial.
