Peter Fraser


1884 - 1950

New Zealand politician. Born in Hill of Fearn (Highland), where he was educated at the local school, Fraser moved to London and joined the Independent Labour Party in 1908. He emigrated for New Zealand in 1910, founding the Labour party there in 1916. When this party gained power in 1935, he served in various positions before becoming Prime Minister during World War II. After the war, he was an enthusiastic proponent of the creation of the United Nations.
