John Milne


1942 - 2014

Broadcaster. Born in Dundee, Milne was educated at the Harris Academy before joining D.C. Thomson in the city and then The Scotsman in Edinburgh. Following a brief period with the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation in Berne, he joined the BBC in 1971. He was initially based in Aberdeen but moved to Glasgow two years later to become an anchor of BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland, a role which was to continue for more than 20 years. On television, Milne presented Reporting Scotland, and provided highly professional reporting of events such as the Piper Alpha Disaster and the Lockerbie Air Disaster, both in 1988, and the reconvening of the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh in 1999. He went on to become a valued presenter of Newsnight Scotland. Milne retired in 2007 and died in Dundee.
