Henry David Erskine


(10th Earl of Buchan)

1710 - 1767

Noble. Born in Edinburgh, the son of David Erskine, 9th Earl of Buchan, whom he succeeded in 1745. Erskine was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1734. He was also a freemason and served as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland (1745-46). He died in Bath (England) but lies buried in Holyrood Abbey in Edinburgh. His son, another Henry Erskine (1746 - 1817), became Lord Advocate.
