Norman Leslie


(19th Earl of Rothes)

1877 - 1927

Noble and soldier. He succeeded his grandmother to the Earldom of Rothes in 1893. Leslie served in various militia regiments between 1895, including the Highland Cyclist Battalion which became part of the Black Watch. He fought in the First World War and sustained injuries from which he never fully recovered. During the War he gave over his family home, Leslie House, as a volunteer aid hospital, run by his wife Lucy Leslie who was a noted survivor of the sinking of RMS Titanic. Leslie served as a Scottish representative peer between 1906 and 1923.
