Michael Cathel Fallon


1952 -

Politician. Born in Perth, the son of the surgeon, Fallon was raised in Invergowrie and educated at Craigflower Preparatory School in Torryburn (Fife) and at Epsom College in Surrey. He went on to read Classics and Ancient History at the University of St. Andrews, graduating in 1974. Fallon began his career as a researcher for the Conservative Party and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Darlington in 1983, serving until 1992. He re-entered Parliament in 1997 representing Sevenoaks. He served as Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party (2010-12), Minister for Business and Enterprise (2012-14), Minister of State for Energy (2013-14) and briefly Minister of State for Portsmouth (2014). He was appointed Secretary of State for Defence in 2014 under Prime Minister David Cameron and continued in this role under Theresa May. Fallon has also been successful in business, directing companies in the nursery, care and fitness sectors.
