Gordon McQueen


1952 -

Footballer. Born in Kilbirnie (North Ayrshire), McQueen joined St. Mirren Football Club in Paisley at the age of 18. Two years later he was signed by the English club Leeds United, who went on to win the League Championship, with a remarkable run of twenty-nine matches without a defeat. He moved to Manchester United in 1978 for a fee of £495,000. He helped this team reach the FA Cup Final in 1979, and win the Cup in 1983. He also played for the Scottish national team between 1974 and 1981). After retiring as a player he served as a coach at St. Mirren, Airdrie and finally Middlesbrough. McQueen was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2012 and lives in Yorkshire.
