Eilish McColgan


1990 -

Athlete. Born in Dundee, daughter of the Olympic medal-winning runner Liz McColgan (b.1964). She was educated the High School of Dundee and then read mathematics and accountancy at the University of Dundee. She joined the Hawkhill Harriers club where she was coached by her mother. Early success came in the 1500 metres race at the Scottish Schools Championships in 2006 but it was another decade until she began to win top-flight medals at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade (2017) and the European Championships in Berlin (2018) in 3000m and 5000m races respectively. In 2019, she broke her mother's Scottish record by running the 10-mile Great South Run in 51 minutes and 38 seconds. Further success came with a gold medal in the 10,000m at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games of 2022.
