Anneliese Dodds


1978 -

Politician, who became the first female Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer in Britain. Born in Aberdeen, Dodds was raised in Netherley (Aberdeenshire), attended primary school in Stonehaven and then Robert Gordon's College in Aberdeen. She read philosophy, politics and economics at St. Hilda's College, Oxford, becoming President of Oxford University Student Union (1999), followed by a Masters in Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh and a doctorate at the London School of Economics. She began her career as a university lecturer, but was elected as a Labour Party member of the European Parliament in 2014 and then to the UK Parliament representing Oxford East in 2017. She was immediately appointed as a Shadow Treasury Minister by Jeremy Corbyn and then, in 2020, became Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer under Sir Keir Starmer, the first woman to hold this position.
