Record-breaking swimmer and Olympic medalist. Born in Glasgow and raised in Alloa, Scott was educated at Strathallan School in Perthshire, where he was awarded a sporting scholarship, and studied sports science at the University of Stirling. He won a succession of gold medals in various junior championships (2013-15), but went on to win a silver medal in the 4 × 200m freestyle relay in the Rio de Janeiro of 2016 and a gold in the same event at the World Aquatics Championships held in Budapest in 2017. He gained a gold and four bronze medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia and, the same year, three gold medals and a silver at the European Aquatics Championships held in Glasgow. More medals and a British record came at the World Aquatics Championships held in South Korea in 2019. 2021 brought further medals, together with British and European records. Scott became the first British athlete to win four medals at an Olympic games at Tokyo 2020, which was delayed due to the COVID epidemic until 2021. He won a gold in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle, with his team taking a European record, together with three silver medals in the Men's 200m individual medley, Men's 4 x 200m freestyle and in the 4 × 100 metre medley relay. He was the first Scottish swimmer to win gold at an Olympics since David Wilkie at the 1976 Montreal Games. Further success came for Scott in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games of 2022, with two further gold medals and four bronze medals, making him Scotland's most successful Commonwealth medallist.
Scott was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List of 2022 for services to swimming.
