John-James Chalmers

1986 -

Television presenter, athlete and soldier. Born in Edinburgh, the youngest son of The Very Rev. Dr John Chalmers (b.1952), Chalmers was educated at Strathallan School and the University of Edinburgh. He began his career as a teacher at Balerno Community High School in Edinburgh. He joined the Royal Marines in 2010, serving in Afghanistan where he experienced life-changing injuries following a bomb explosion. He went on to win medals for cycling and athletics at the Invictus Games in 2014.

Chalmers then turned his hand to broadcasting, initially presenting sport on television and radio, including the Tokyo Olympics of 2020 and Beijing Winter Olympics of 2022. He joined The One Show in 2017 and Money for Nothing in 2021 and appeared in Strictly Come Dancing (2020). Chalmers has also been involved in the presentation of national events on television, including the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings (2019) and the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh (2021). He presented the three -part documentary Dunkirk: Mission Impossible for Channel 5 television in 2022.

Chalmers lives with his family in Dunfermline (Fife).
