Architect. Born in North Leith, the son of a joiner, Cousin became a pupil of William Henry Playfair (1789 - 1857). He specialised in the design of churches, garden cemeteries and mausoleums. His work included Dalry, Dean, Newington and Warriston Cemeteries in Edinburgh, and the Menteith Mausoleum in the Glasgow Necropolis. He served as Architect to the British Linen Bank and was responsible for several of their branches around Scotland. Cousin was also Superintendent of Public Works for Edinburgh (1847-74) and in this role built a Corn Exchange in the Grassmarket, Abattoirs at Fountainbridge and laid out East Princes Street Gardens. He was also responsible for the Corn Exchange in Dalkeith (1854).
