Nick Nairn

1959 -

Chef and broadcaster. Born in Ayr and educated in Callander, Nairn left school to join the merchant navy. With little experience, he opened the Old Mill in Aberfoyle as a restaurant having taught himself how to cook. With the growth of quality cooking, Nairn has carved a career for himself as one of the most influential of Scottish chefs, with numerous awards for his restaurants in Aberfoyle and Glasgow. He became a popular TV Chef appearing on programmes such as Ready, Steady, Cook (from 1996) and presented several series examining Scottish produce, including Island Harvest (1998).

Nairn lives on the Lochend Estate, near Port of Menteith, where he founded a cookery school in a converted piggery in 2000.
