Politician. Educated at Leith Academy and George Heriot's School (Edinburgh) before studying law at the University of Edinburgh. He has worked for a company of Edinburgh solicitors since 1976, rising to become a partner. David McLetchie was returned as a regional Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Lothians (1999) and served as Leader of the 18-strong Scottish Conservative group until 2005 when the press precipitated his spectacular resignation following a scandal over taxi receipts.
