The first of a line of Mylne Master Masons to the King, working under the King's Master of Works and combining the functions of architect, surveyor, contractor and clerk of works. Mylne was appointed to this post in 1481 and is likely to have been responsible for the new gatehouse and Great Hall as Stirling Castle, together with alterations to Linlithgow Palace.
