Sir Muirhead Bone


1876 - 1953

Artist. Bone was born in Glasgow, the son of a journalist. He studied architecture and art at the Glasgow School of Art. He became famous as an artist who specialised in etching and drypoint engraving, particularly of architectural subjects. He served as an official artist during both World Wars and was knighted in 1937. He died in Oxford but was buried in Whitegate (Cheshire). Bone is remembered by a tablet in St. Paul's Cathedral in London.
