Battle of Aird's Moss

The Battle of Aird's Moss took place to the west of Muirkirk in East Ayrshire on 22nd July 1680 and involved the pursuit of Covenanters by a force of 120 Government Dragoons, under the command of David Bruce of Earlshall. Nine Covenanters were killed, including Rev. Richard Cameron, with five taken prisoner and the remainder escaping. Some twenty-eight Government soldiers were killed. A monument now marks the site.
