Battle of Cromdale


1690

Cromdale was the final battle of the war between forces loyal to the deposed King James VII and William of Orange. On 1st May 1690, a large government force under Sir Thomas Livingstone surprised a raiding army of around 1500 Jacobite clansmen under Major-General Buchan, at the Haughs of Cromdale. The Jacobites were routed and around 400 killed.
