Rob Roy's Grave

Located in front of Balquhidder Old Kirk, next to the present parish church, is the grave of the noted Jacobite and cattle-thief Rob Roy MacGregor (1671 - 1734). A popular tourist attraction, the grave is also a place of pilgrimage for Scottish nationalists.

The inscription on the gravestone states 'MacGregor Despite Them', a line from MacGregor's Gathering by Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832), and records that the grave is also the last resting place of his wife, Helen Mary, and sons Coll (d.1735) and Robert (d.1754).
