Tangy Wind Farm

Located on the west coast of the Kintyre Peninsula, the Tangy Wind Farm lies 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Campbeltown (Argyll and Bute). Commencing operation in 2002, the farm is capable of generating a total of 18.7 MW of electricity. The original fifteen 850 kW turbines, which stand 75m (246 feet) high and generated 12.75 MW. The farm cost £7 million and the turbines were manufactured locally at Machrihanish by Danish-owned Vesta-Celtic Wind Technology. An extension became operational in 2007, adding a further 7 Gamesa G52/850 turbines, of similar power and diameter, but taller, reaching a height of 81m (266 feet) high. The replacement of all the existing turbines with more powerful ones, and a further extension was approved in 2018.

The farm is owned and operated by utility conglomerate Scottish & Southern Energy Plc headquartered in Perth.
