A small privately-owned crematorium occupying a B-listed former church in the rural surroundings of the hamlet of Broadley, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Buckie, Moray Crematorium serves the communities of North East Scotland. Rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1886 by A. Marshall Mackenzie of Aberdeen, this was the original Enzie Parish Church. With the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, it became Enzie South Church. However, a declining congregation caused the building to fall from use in 1997. It was subject to an award-winning conversion for use as a crematorium, that opened in June 1999, but which retained many of the original features of the church, including the bell and pipe organ by the Manchester-based firm of Ernest Wadsworth. The multi-faith chapel accommodates up to 180 mourners. 426 cremations were performed in 2009, but this had risen to 566 by 2014. The crematorium is set in 2.4 ha (6 acres) which includes a memorial garden and 100 parking spaces.
The facility is run by Moray Crematorium Ltd., a subsidiary of Dignity which is a large publicly-listed funeral services company that operates 39 crematoria across the UK and has annual revenues of £270 million (2014).
