A road bridge which crosses Loch Creran at narrows between Creagan and South Creagan, the Creagan Bridge opened in 1999 and is 150m (492 feet) in length. It was constructed by Balfour Beatty Ltd. at a cost £4 million and allows motorists to avoid a 5½-mile (9-km) journey around the head of the loch. It was built on the piers of the old Creagan Viaduct, that once carried the Ballachulish branch of the Callander & Oban Railway, a line which closed in 1966. This railway bridge, still largely complete, had to have its deck lifted off by an immense crane-barge and its piers lowered to take the steel and concrete deck of the new bridge.
The old viaduct was completed in 1903 and comprised battlemented granite approach arches, with a central span comprising two steel lattice trusses.
