Midhowe

The site of an enormous prehistoric chambered cairn and a later Iron-Age broch on the west coast of Rousay in the Orkney Isles. Excavated between 1930 and 1933 by W.G. Grant, the chambered tomb measures 32.5m (107 feet) long by 13m (43 feet) wide. The broch, which survives to a height of 4.3m (14 feet), may be one of the oldest in the Orkney Isles, while the chambered cairn is one of the oldest constructions in Scotland, dated to around 3500 BC.
