Knockendon Reservoir

A small reservoir in North Ayrshire, Knockendon is located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of West Kilbride and a similar distance northwest of Dalry. Impounded by an earth embankment dam, which had to be reinforced during construction in 1941 because of the partial failure of nearby Muirhead Dam which was being built at the same time. Knockendon opened in 1948 and covers an area of 22.3 ha (55 acres). Now operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water, the reservoir also supports a recreational fishery.
