Thorntonhall Railway Station

A small unmanned railway station on the East Kilbride branch of the Glasgow South Western Line, Thorntonhall Station (Gael: Dail Bhaile Dhealgaiche) lies on Peel Road the western edge of Thorntonhall (South Lanarkshire). It lies a mile (1.5 km) southeast of Busby and 1½ miles (2.5 km) west northwest of Hairmyres Station. It opened in 1868 as Eaglesham Road Station, a rural halt on the former Busby Railway, serving the mansion of Thorntonhall (now demolished). Now operated by ScotRail, it is used by around 20,000 passengers per annum (2016). The line here is single-track, becoming dualled between Busby to Glasgow Central.
