Waulkmill Glen Reservoir

The northeasternmost of a group of five reservoirs situated on the Brock Burn between Barrhead and Newton Mearns in East Renfrewshire, Waulkmill Glen lies next to Ryat Linn Reservoir and is retained by an earth embankment dam. Opened in 1848, it is part of a scheme instituted by the Gorbals Gravitation Water Company in 1846 to supply the south of Glasgow with drinking water. In 1865, these reservoirs began supplying the town of Barrhead with water. Now operated by Scottish Water, Waulkmill Glen Reservoir covers an area of 24.6 ha (60 acres).
