Queensberry Monument

A substantial ashlar column in Queensberry Square an expansion of the High Street in Dumfries town centre, the Queensberry Monument is a memorial to Charles Douglas, 3rd Duke of Queensberry (1698 - 1778). Dating from 1780, this A-listed monument is the work of Robert Adam (1728-92), is 6.4m (21 feet) in height and topped by a flaming urn. The monument was taken down in 1934 but was replaced in 1990.
