A modern football stadium which forms the centrepiece of the Stirling Sports Village at Springkerse, 1¼ miles (2 km) east of the town centre. Constructed as Forthbank Stadium by Stirling Council in 1993 to provide a new home for Stirling Albion Football Club, it was renamed Doubletree Dunblane Stadium in 2010 as part of a sponsorship deal with the owners of the Dunblane Hydro hotel. The main stand lies to the west of the pitch and includes player facilities, offices and hospitality suites. Another smaller stand is located opposite. The stadium has a capacity of 3808, with 2508 seated and the remainder in two small terraces behind each goal.
Stirling Albion Football Club was founded in 1945 and occupied a new ground at Annfield, a quarter-mile (0.5 km) south of the town centre. When the club faced financial problems in 1981, this ground was sold to Stirling District Council. In the early 1990s the Council decided the ground was no longer fit-for-purpose. During the 2000s, the club has played in the First, Second and Third Divisions of the Scottish Football League. In 2010, Stirling Albion became the first Scottish senior club to be bought by its fans when the Stirling Albion Supporters Trust agreed a £300,000 deal to clear debts and purchase the club from its former owners.
Still owned by Stirling Council, the stadium is now part of Forthbank Performance Sport Centre which also provides conference facilities, a gym, five-a-side football pitches and a hockey pitch. The name Forthbank is taken from a farm which once occupied the land a half-mile (0.8 km) to the west.
