Falkirk Tryst Golf Course

A parkland golf course which divides Larbert from Stenhousemuir and Antonshill, the Falkirk Tryst Golf Club was established in 1885. This par 70 course extends to 6053 yards (5534m) and is laid out on the former Stenhousemuir Common which was the site of great cattle trysts - the largest in Scotland. These markets used to take place at Reddingmuir, Roughcastle and then Carmuirs - all located closer to Falkirk - but moved here in 1785 and continued until the late 19th century. Cattle droving brought beasts from all around the Highlands to markets held on the first Tuesdays of August, September and October. As many as 150,000 cattle, sheep and horses changed hands, with many being sold on for the English market.
