Whitrope Rail Heritage Centre

Comprising a former siding on the disused Waverley Line, the Whitrope Rail Heritage Centre is located next to the B6399 road, 9 miles (15 km) south southeast of Hawick. Connecting Edinburgh with Carlisle, the Waverley Line opened in 1862 and closed in 1969. The centre is run by the Waverley Route Heritage Association, who began their work in 2001. They have relaid a section of track, up to the Whitrope Tunnel, and run tourist services. Several diesel engines are based here, with wagons and carriages, all undergoing restoration. The Centre now contains modest displays, together with an archive of photographs and memorabilia, all contained within railway carriages. The land is leased from Forestry and Land Scotland.

Immediately to the north is Whitrope Summit, which represents the highest point on the line at 307m (1006 feet).
