Cairns of Coll Lighthouse

(Suil Ghorm Lighthouse)

The Cairns of Coll Lighthouse is located on the islet of Suil Ghorm, 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of coast of Coll in the Inner Hebrides. It is named for the pair of dangerous rocks which lie a further half-mile (1 km) to the northeast. Built in 1909 by David A. Stevenson (1854 - 1938) and Charles Stevenson (1855 - 1950), the lighthouse comprises a white-painted metal tower, 7.5m (25 feet) in height, with a lantern gallery at an elevation of 23m (75 feet) above sea level. Operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board, this light is fully automatic, with a helipad nearby to provide access for servicing. It is continuously monitored from the Board's Headquarters in Edinburgh.
