A halt on the West Highland Line, Helensburgh Upper Station (Gael: Baile Eilidh Àrd) is the town's second station located a half-mile (0.8 km) farther up the hill from Helensburgh Central Station. The station lies within a cutting between Munro Drive West and West Rossdhu Street. The original picturesque Swiss-style station building (by James Miller, 1894) was demolished in the 1980s, to be replaced by a simple shelter at the end of a long covered ramp which descends from Sinclair Street. The single line enters the station on a slight rise and leaves of a little curve, giving the impression of a toy railway when viewed from street-level.
Operated by ScotRail, Helensburgh Upper Station is unstaffed and is used by 23,294 passengers per annum (2009-10). It is preceded by Dumbarton Central Railway Station, 8 miles (13 km) to the southeast, and followed by Garelochhead, 6 miles (10 km) to the northwest.
The C-listed former station-master's house, dating from 1894, survives to the east at 116 Sinclair Street.
