Selkirk Transmitting Station

One of the principal television transmission masts in Southern Scotland, the Selkirk Transmitting Station is located 2 miles (3 km) east of Selkirk in the Scottish Borders. Commissioned in 1961, the mast comprises a lattice steel tower, tethered by guy cables and reaches 239m (783 feet) in height. It originally broadcast 405-line black-and-white television signals and its signal reaches much of the Scottish Borders, together with parts of Midlothian, East Lothian, North and South Lanarkshire. This station converted from analogue to digital-only transmission on the 20th November 2008, the first in Scotland to make the switch. Its analogue output had been 50 kW, but digital output averages only 6.5 kW.
