With its vehicular entrance on Market Street and exit on Guild Street, Aberdeen Bus Station opened in February 2008, representing the first part of the Union Square development. It is accessed from Union Square, which provides an easy link though to Aberdeen Railway Station, located immediately to the west. The old bus station, which lay adjacent, was regarded by many as an eyesore. It opened in 1963 and was demolished a month after the new station came into service, to be redeveloped within the Union Square complex.
The bus station extends to 882 sq. m (9500 sq. feet) and includes a ticket office, administrative offices, toilets and a waiting area. It is used by 500,000 passengers annually and features electronic timetable information.
