Newton Street Tunnel

Representing Scotland's longest railway tunnel, the Newton Street Tunnel connects Greenock West Railway Station with Fort Matilda Station, for much of its 1930m / 6333 feet length following the route of Newton Street in the west of Greenock. The tunnel opened in 1889, allowing the Caledonian Railway to extend their services to Gourock. At one point this tunnel passes beneath the Union Street Tunnel. It remains operational.
