A loch at the centre of a significant group of reservoirs known as the Glen Clachaig Feeder Reservoir System, Loch Clachaig is located within the Knapdale Forest of Argyll and Bute. One of the larger reservoirs in the scheme and containing three small islands, it is connected by a channel to Gleann Loch below. Now managed by Scottish Canals, these reservoirs were built to supply of water to the Crinan Canal. They were named in 1814 by the engineer Hugh Baird (1770 - 1827).
