Loch an Add

One of the larger of a group of reservoirs in the Knapdale Forest of Argyll and Bute, Loch an Add is located 2 miles (3 km) south of Bellanoch. Together these reservoirs are known as the Glen Clachaig Feeder Reservoir System and were built to supply water to the Crinan Canal. Long and narrow, Loch an Add is retained by an earth embankment dam at its northern end and water passes from it to Daill Loch below. These reservoirs were named in 1814 by the engineer Hugh Baird (1770 - 1827) and are now managed by Scottish Canals. The loch supports a recreational fishery for brown trout.
